Botox blocks nerve signals to muscles. Its
dermatological uses are for wrinkles above the nose, squint
lines, deep forehead creases, and excessive sweating of the
underarms.
- How fast does it work?
There is usually a lag of 3 to 7 days for the medication to
take effect. There are no special aftercare instructions and
one can immediately return to normal activities. Results
usually last 3 to 4 months and then gradually fade.
- What are the risks? There may be
soreness after the injections; one side may respond more
than the other; or may affect nearby, non-targeted muscles.
Rare serious side effects can be associated with repeated
injections.
- How much does it cost? Billing is
based on the number of units used. Forehead treatments
require 35 units, up to 50 if “crow’s feet” are done as
well. Cosmetic facial treatments are not covered by
insurance plans.
